Destination Imagination (DI) gives your child the space to explore, experiment, and grow—while having fun with friends.

What Is DI?

Destination Imagination is a hands-on creative problem-solving experience where kids work on a team of 2-7 peers to solve open-ended STEAM-based challenges over several weeks or months. It’s 100% kid-driven, and teams take their solutions to a fun tournament experience in the spring.

FAQs

How can I as a parent, help? ▼
You can become a Team Manager, teach a skill, help with snacks and transportation, and be your child's biggest cheerleader!
How much time does it take? ▼
Team meetings and practices are usually up to the team and the Team Manager. Some teams start off with an hour or two a week, increasing as the team sees fits as it gets closer to tournament season.
How long is the DI season? ▼
The DI season begins in the fall of each year. Teams decide when they will start meeting. In Wisconsin, the season can run through late February - early March with the conclusion of the Regional tournaments. If a team qualifies and chooses to move on, the Wisconsin Affiliate (aka Stat) Tournament is in early April. If a team qualifies and chooses to move on, the Global Finals tournament is held at the end of May.
How many kids are on a team? ▼
A DI team is 2-7 kids in Elementary (Grades K-2 or Grades 3-5), Middle (Grades 6-8), and Secondary (Grades 9-12) Levels.
How much does DI cost? ▼
A team number is $165, plus a Wisconsin affiliate fee of $100*. Each challenge has a materials budget of $100–$150. There is a $50 registration fee for the Regional Tournament. This totals $465, which when split across 7 team members is only $67 per student. *These costs are effective May 14 - July 14, 2026 as an early-bird special. Effective July 15, 2026, a team number will be $175, plus the Wisconsin affiliate fee of $110.
